Collecting NRM Levy an impost

THE state government and opposition have refused to support legislation to remove council’s responsibility of collecting the Natural Resources Management Levy.

Family First MLC Robert Brokenshire said the government should collect its own levy.

Councils receive a fee from the government to cover administration costs; however, they are required to pay the full levy to the state government even if residents don’t pay their rates.
