Penalty rate cuts divide workplaces

THE Fair Work Commission’s decision to reduce Sunday and public holiday rates has been met with mixed feelings.

The decision was made as part of the commission’s four-yearly review of modern awards and will result in a 50 per cent wage reduction for some sectors.

Hospitality, fast food, retail, restaurant and pharmacy staff will receive reduced wages from July 1.
