Power price surge a headache for councils

THE harsh reality of the state’s escalating electricity prices was brought home during a presentation at Yorke Peninsula Council’s workshop meeting in March.

YPC is looking down the barrel of a 23 per cent power bill increase in 2017-18.

“Our costs in 2014-15 totalled $571,950, the forecast for the 2016-17 financial year is $598,236 while our 2017-18 estimated cost is a staggering $738,722,” CEO Andrew Cameron said.
