Your View: Council wards

THE report about the District Council of the Copper Coast becoming the Copper Coast Council (YPCT 20-6-17) raises some urgent questions.

I quote the article regarding wards and the number of councillors, “Drop the number of councillors and not follow a wards system.”

I attended the council meeting on August 3, 2016, and was handed the business agenda, et cetera, for that meeting. One page gave the total building approvals and the total value of approvals issued in the four towns.

Approvals: Kadina 98, Moonta 246, Wallaroo 170, Paskeville 68.

Value of approvals: Kadina $9,483.988, Moonta $19,851,052, Wallaroo $13,331,347, Paskeville $3,228,282.

In both cases: Moonta (1), Wallaroo (2), Kadina (3), Paskeville (4).

Is it any wonder ratepayers are so unhappy, and why council doesn’t want the wards system?

C. S. Bennett, Moonta
