Probing soil testing, fertiliser choices

LIKELY returns from im­p­roved nutrient management techniques and the opportunity to boost farm profit while managing risk is the subject of a new three-year GRDC investment in the southern growing region (South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania).

Project coordinator is Ag­rono­my Solutions consultant Harm van Rees, supported by project adviser Agronomy Solutions research leader Sean Mason.

Dr Mason says the project will begin with an economic analysis of soil and plant testing approaches, including frequency, rotation phase, sampling intensity, soil depths and controlled traffic paddocks sampling.
