MFA pleased with fishing reforms

MARINE Fishers Association members are pleased by the commitment of the state government and opposition to reform South Australia’s marine scalefish industry.

The government announced it will spend $20million buying back up to a third of marine scalefish fishing licences – about 80 longline and 20 net fishing licences. The commercial fishery will be expected to help with the buyback process.

New zoning and quota management regulations will also be introduced.
