Mining royalties: devil in the detail

WHILE supporting the return of mining royalties to the regions, Yorke Peninsula Land Owners Group has said more details are needed about how the proposals would work in practice.

If Labor wins the state election, farmers who have a mining lease granted on their land will receive a 10 per cent share of any royalties generated by the mine.

The Royalties for Regions proposal put forward by the Liberals would result in 30 per cent of the revenue generated from mineral and petroleum royalties being paid into a Regional Roads and Infrastructure Fund.
