As per normal, Mr Ramsey plays the blame game, like a typical politician. No other country has hiked the pension age, and it is not the first time Coalition governments have walked away from their responsibilities. We had John Howard obsessed with his gun laws, and his treasurer, Peter Costello, splashing around super-generous baby bonuses.
Successive federal governments for years have known of the ageing of Australia’s population, and what have they done? Absolutely nothing.
Mr Ramsey tries to justify business tax cuts and, on top of this, the wastage on foreign handouts, when we have big social problems of our own, such as homelessness and poverty.
If the Turnbull government can afford this, then they can easily afford to keep the pension age at 65. Baby boomers like myself built this country and paid our taxes. We deserve much better than to be trashed in this way. No matter what the age pension costs, federal governments must provide for these people. If necessary, take money from less deserving things.
The hiking of the pension age is going to cost this out-of-touch federal government very dearly. I have just turned 65 and guess who I will not be voting for next federal poll – Turnbull and his clown show of talking heads. He and his government should be looking after those approaching pension age, but pigs may fly. They do, when shot out of a cannon!
With a federal government that has a majority of just one, and facing a hostile upper house, things don’t look good. Good riddance to bad rubbish! I will not be sorry to see this government fall.
