Making the call to back young ump

Jakeb Branford, of Wal­laroo, is umpiring A grade footy at just 15 years old.

He started boundary umpiring then gained some experience as a field umpire in the mini colts during the past couple of seasons.

This year, he contacted league vice-president and umpires’ trainer Stephen Brown asking to move into the junior colts, but never imagined he would be given a go in A grade come round one.
