HEAD to Barley Stacks Wines, near Maitland, for a family-friendly day of food, wine and music this weekend.
Savour the Yorkes, part of Tasting Australia, will showcase Yorke Peninsula’s harvest across land and sea in a relaxed atmosphere on Saturday, May 3, from 12pm to 5pm.
Guests can graze their way through entree-sized dishes from local producers, learn about regional ingredients, and enjoy a laid-back afternoon pairing meals with Yorke Peninsula wines, beers and spirits.
Live music will be provided by local band Salt & Sea, featuring Caleb Raymond, Sarah Johnson and Darren Braund.
Local businesses bringing their flavours to the event include Nourished by Jo, MBC Foods, Yorkes Coffee Co and Babbage Farm.
Nourished by Jo will serve dishes celebrating seasonal produce such as apples, pomegranates, chickpeas and lentils, with a strong focus on curries.
Jo’s veggie-loaded two-cheese tarts and soups made from local SYP produce round out her savoury offerings for the event, plus there will be apple cinnamon upside-down cake and other sweet treats.
MBC Foods will highlight regional salt and seafood, including their much-loved take on salt and pepper prawns.
Other MBC Foods favourites are Watsacowie beer-battered whiting, kids’ nuggets and chips, and warm chocolate red lentil brownies, served with Golden North ice cream.
Yorkes Coffee Co, a boutique roaster based in Wallaroo, will offer fresh, aromatic brews.
Babbage Farm, located near Brentwood and known for chemical-free farming, is collaborating with Ks Delicious Catering to deliver a range of lamb sausage options — seaweed, plain, and lemon and turmeric — served with mashed potato and salad. They will also offer lamb backstrap medallions.
All Babbage Farm dishes, as well as biscuits and cupcakes provided by Kathleen from the Coeliac Society of South Australia, will be gluten free.
Families can relax with live music, take in the scenic Yorke Valley views, and keep the kids entertained with lawn games throughout the afternoon.
The venue is wheelchair accessible.
Entry is free, but bookings are essential to assist with catering. Food and beverages will be available for purchase on the day.
