Celebrating WFC sponsors
4 min read

WALLAROO Football Club will celebrate its life members and sponsors when its teams take on Kadina at home on Saturday, July 15.

President Tom Nolan said the day was an important opportunity to thank those who had given so much to the club.

“We’re really lucky to have a strong sponsorship base of both new sponsors this year and ones who are practically part of the furniture,” he said.

“It’s great to be able to have a day like this and thank them for their generosity.”

Finger food and drinks will be available for sponsors in a sectioned-off area from 3pm until the end of the A grade game.

“Our catering is being done by Wallaroo player and Coopers Alehouse Wallaroo head chef Nathan Wright,” Mr Nolan said.

“Nathan has some really great ideas for food at the club and is going to be doing more with our current group of volunteers.”

Match day player presentations will be in the clubroom after the game, with meals available from 5.30pm.

The club will also honour its life members, including newest inductee Geoff “Joffa” Jarman, at 7.15pm.

“He is incredibly well deserving of the recognition,” Mr Nolan said.

“He’s been a player, coach and volunteer for more than 20 years.

“The time he gives freely for us, like all volunteers, has not gone unnoticed.”

History on offer

ORGANISERS are hoping attendees stick around for the Bulldogs Monster Auction, starting at 6pm on the Wallaroo Football Club Sponsors Day and Life Members, Saturday, July 15.

With about 100 items on offer, there’s sure to be something for everyone.

Ray White Yorke Peninsula’s Shaun Miller will be conducting the auction, club president Tom Nolan said.

“We’ve never had an auction like this in my time at the club,” Mr Nolan said.

“Our coach approached us with the idea as it is something he had had experience with at his former clubs.

“There’s a great range of items on offer that have been donated by our players.

“We’re also auctioning off our match-worn Anzac Round A grade jumpers, and we’re hoping to see all 21 of them go for some good money, whether it’s the players who buy them or others.

“I’d think some would go for between $300 and $500 as it’s the (club’s) first one.”

Geoff gives back to the game

GEOFF “Joffa” Jarman is joining Wallaroo Football Club’s life members list this Saturday, July 15.

Mr Jarman first came to Wallaroo as the playing coach of the A grade side in 1985.

“That first year we were still living in Salisbury, but the second year we moved up to Wallaroo,” Mr Jarman said.

“I played for a couple of years after that and then started coaching the senior colts, we won two premierships.”

Mr Jarman has held multiple roles in his time with the club, running water and as a trainer, while also putting his hand up as an umpire.

After a short break to work on his golf game, Mr Jarman came back to work in a junior development role.

“I think I’ve probably watched every game from under 10s for about 15 years,” he said.

“I played football all my life, I was incredibly fortunate to play some league football with Central District, so being involved is my way of giving back to the sport.

“My enjoyment is from seeing those kids develop, and become better footballers.”

At 71, Mr Jarman has no plans of slowing up.

“I really value the relationships I have with the kids, I reckon I could have a one-on-one chat with any of them, not just about footy but about life as well,” he said.

“It was very humbling to find out they wanted to make me a life member.

“Being involved was reward enough.

“Even now, players I’ve coached in the past will come up and have a chat, those relationships are still there.

“Wallaroo is a great club, we have a really great group of volunteers.”
