Food vans accelerate across the country

THE popularity of mobile food and beverage vans continues to gain traction, especially on Yorke Peninsula.

Food trucks have gained widespread popularity, with almost two-thirds of the population eating out at least once every month. Australia’s food industry has grown exponentially in recent years.

It’s now estimated there are more than 5000 food trucks across Australia, and the industry continues to grow despite the Covid-19 lockdowns which forced many businesses to close.

Due to a change in consumer food preferences, there’s a massive demand for high-quality food at affordable prices, and this is a need food trucks have been able to address quite effectively.

Also, the fact they allow entrepreneurs to enter the food industry with an initial investment that is much lower than opening a traditional cafe or restaurant means you can expect to see more and more food trucks in Australian cities and urban centres.

 MFP Fire Foods

CHEF Mathew Pulling from MFP Fire Foods, based in Minlaton, is passionate about embracing all the heat and smoke an open fire can offer.

“The distinctive flavours from slow fire cooking are becoming an increasingly popular and unique choice for weddings, corporate and private backyard events,” Mat said.

“There is something irresistible about the gentle, succulent, smoky flavours of lamb, chicken, beef, pork, seafood, paella and vegetables dished up straight from the fire.

“The rustic nature of the fire inspires curiosity, drawing people in and creating a unique ambience for your event.

“Contact MFP Fire Foods to discuss bringing fire food options to your event and tailoring something unique for you.”

Taste the Yorke on Wheels

TASTE the Yorke on Wheels offers all your favourite drinks from Taste the Yorke, Moonta, but more conveniently for all events on the go.

“We are a mobile coffee van serving your favourite brews, milkshakes, juices and slushies on Yorke Peninsula,” owner Jo Gibbons said.

“We can cater at your venue for coffee, cold drinks and if you’re looking for alcohol service we offer a pouring experience as well.”

Taste the Yorke on Wheels hit the streets in October 2021.

“We saw the potential to create a mini Taste the Yorke,” Jo said.

“The van was rundown, but with vision and commitment from Prominitz Engineering and my twin brother, we started work on bringing ‘Jilly’ back to life!

“Our success is built on Taste The Yorke’s local customers and we have been able to offer this locally and to surrounding areas.

“Book us for your next birthday, wedding, expo or corporate event, we come to you — Yorke Peninsula is our backyard!

“Supporting YP businesses and events is our focus.”

MBC Foods

CAROLINE Bonnett started MBC Foods as a sea-salt and small-scale catering business in 2005.

“I used to do salt and pepper prawns out of a marquee at events, so moving into a food van was a natural choice which we made about five years ago,” Caroline said.

“I am incredibly passionate about local produce, we use local salt and local seafood, and it always proves to be popular.

“I think the first time we did prawns, we did it at an Easter fair in Corny Point and we sold out so quickly.”

MBC Foods does catering all over Yorke Peninsula, creating all different styles of food, as well as street-style foods at events, fairs and shows, and operates as a food vendor at local businesses.

“We love to cover events across the area, we love locals supporting locals,” Caroline said.
