YORKE Peninsula Physiotherapy has opened its doors at the Ardrossan Health Centre.
Owner and physiotherapist Kimberley Langley said she is looking forward to working with patients to provide a care plan centred around their needs, with a heavy focus on education and exercise, in addition to hands-on therapy.
“I believe in empowering my patients through education so they can understand exactly what is happening with their body,” Kimberley said.
“This provides them with skills and autonomy in managing their injury/condition which can also provide them with control over the pain/limited function.”
Kimberley graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from the University of South Australia in 2018, but she hasn’t stopped learning.
She is a certified GLA:D physiotherapist for patients with osteoarthritis of the knee or hip, and in 2021 she went on to complete her PINC Cancer Rehabilitation Physiotherapy training through PINC & STEEL International and is a certified PINC Cancer Rehabilitation Physiotherapist.
“Osteoarthritis is the most common cause of mobility difficulties and disability in older Australians,” Kimberley said.
“The GLA:D Program is a fantastic and simple program which can help reduce pain and improve function in people living with osteoarthritis so I am happy to bring it to Yorke Peninsula.
“I completed further cancer training after I had two patients going through very different cancer journeys and felt my undergraduate training was not sufficient to help them.
“The skills I gained have allowed me to provide targeted rehabilitation and advice to people before, during and after their cancer treatments, including those who are palliative.”
Kimberley, who grew up on a farm near Bordertown, said she is also very passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of regional people.
“I enjoy helping people of all ages and abilities and have particular interest in sporting injuries, pre and post-operative orthopaedic rehabilitation, cancer rehabilitation, the treatment of vertigo and headaches as well as supervised class-based rehabilitation,” she said.
Kimberley can help with everything from musculoskeletal injuries, worksite assessments, ReturnToWorkSA (workcover) injuries, graded Return to Work plans, paediatric conditions, Enhanced Primary Care Plans and manual handling training.
She supports NDIS, Sonder, DVA and Home Care package patients, and will even do community presentations.
