LIGHTNING is believed to have ignited a number of grass fires on Yorke Peninsula this afternoon, Thursday, December 28.

The CFS tackled fires on Wokurna Road, Snowtown district; at the intersection of Keilli Road and Ingram Gap Road near Mundoora; and on Port Victoria Road between Port Victoria and Maitland in the South Kilkerran district.

Eight CFS crews also controlled a blaze on Chapman Road, Nalyappa, which burned approximately 15 acres of farmland and threatened a nearby home.

Earlier, six CFS crews controlled a grass fire on the eastern side of Spencer Highway, north of Alford.

A CFS crew also attended a vehicle accident on Weetulta Road, near Arthurton.
