Growing Yorke Peninsula’s Art Trail

ART across Yorke Peninsula continues to grow.
Art is a rising tourism experience and is a great way to provide economic benefits to towns, as shown since the development of the YP Art Trail in 2020.
In the past 18 months, it has continued to thrive and drive visitation around the region.
YP Tourism manager Lucy O’Brien said the YP Art Trail offered year-round enjoyment.
“It is an authentic, sustainable and accessible visitor experience that reflects and celebrates Yorke Peninsula’s cultural identity,” she said.
“With more self-drive visitors and people seeking low-risk activities, this was an opportunity to showcase the amazing art throughout the region and the variety of artworks, with an achievable, low-cost and low-risk experience for all travellers.”
YP Tourism chair Craig Costello said the YP Art Trail had been a huge success and had captured a key focus for the region, which was to deliver an increased number and range of experiences to continue to grow visitation whilst also increasing visitor length of stay and expenditure.
“The YP Art Trail provides YP with a marketable experience that will and has put additional focus onto YP,” he said.
“It also encourages our guests to explore more of our region which is a great outcome for all our tourism operators and their employees.
“For example, Port Vincent are now offering guided tours of their water tower which are generating participation levels of up to 100 people per month.”
Google Maps now shows the full art trail and is segmented by artwork type.
YP Tourism encourages towns with artwork to jump on board with a submission, photos, description and location to ensure all YP towns with unique art have a presence on the map.
Works can include murals, street art, sculptures, mosaics, galleries, studios, art displays and silo/tank art.
