KADINA Community Hospital Inc is building four retirement units in the heart of Kadina.

Work is progressing on the construction of the properties on the corner of Digby and Christie Streets, Kadina, and the board is now seeking expressions of interest for the sale.

“The hospital board administers the Kadina Community Hospital and doctors’ surgery on behalf of the community,” board chairperson Dean Rodda said.

“We are responsible for their upkeep, but as a non-profit entity, surplus funds are used to assist with aged care and allied health in community.

“It was a community hospital, so it’s important the funds are used in a way to benefit those living here.

“We started this project about three years ago, when we bought the property and demolished the existing house. But then Covid happened and we also had some major renovations we needed to do at the old hospital.

“It also took time for to get all the approvals sorted for the build, but we’re happy to see them progressing.”

Currently Wahlstedt Quality Homes are constructing freestanding three-bedroom and two-bedroom properties.

Two more 2-bedroom units are expected to be constructed at a later date.

“There is a huge need for more housing in the area, especially retirement housing, and we’ve had a good deal of interest already,” Dean said.

“These units are governed by the Retirement Villages Act and we will be responsible for their management.”
