STAR of the Sea Community Care is a reputable and experienced provider of Home Care Packages, and has been servicing Yorke Peninsula (including Copper Coast) and Port Pirie regions for more than 16 years.

The service provides tailored packages for levels one, two, three and four, as well as private services on request.

Star of the Sea Community Care undertook its Quality Review with the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission in December and achieved full compliance from this two-day audit, making it one of only 66 per cent of Home Care Package providers to achieve full compliance in the October to December 2023 quarter.

The organisation also successfully tendered in 2023 to continue to provide care to Australian Defence Force veterans through Veterans’ Home Care, which can include a Home Care Package.

General manager Mel King, a registered nurse with 28 years of aged care experience, said the Community Care team had expanded to service its growing list of clients.

“We have two registered nurses and two enrolled nurses who are rostered over a five-day week and work closely with myself, our coordinators, home care workers and administration staff,” she said.

“We also pride ourselves on the fact our staff are offered plenty of training opportunities to assist them to meet our clients’ needs.

“Our home-care workers are rostered over a seven-day period, including weekends, to provide a range of services such as personal care, social support, transport for appointments or outings, domestic assistance and home garden maintenance.”

Ms King said 2025 would bring major changes in aged care, particularly for Home Care providers, with the introduction of the new Aged Care Act, which would include the new Strengthened Quality Standards and Support at Home program.

“As an organisation, we are preparing for these changes to ensure we continue to support our existing and new clients through this and live up to our motto, which is ‘your home, our care’,” she said.

“One of the changes we are looking forward to is providing more palliative care for our clients under the new End of Life Care pathway to be introduced.

“We have had really positive outcomes in the past with our palliative clients and we are fortunate to have a clinical team with vast aged care and clinical experience who work with the local Palliative Care team and GPs.”
