CLEAN energy company Pacific Blue is progressing plans for its Clements Gap Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project.
The company is asking the region’s contractors, suppliers and businesses to register interest in the project, which is planned to mobilise within two to three months.
The might of local industry is being encouraged to attend an information session about the project at the Port Pirie Memorial Oval Function Centre, 6pm to 8pm, on Wednesday, August 14.
Project team representatives from Pacific Blue, Enzen Australia and PSD will be available to answer questions and record participants’ interest in working on the project.
Pacific Blue General Manager of Development and Delivery Simon Maan says the Clements Gap BESS project will employ between 30 and 60 people and there are mutual benefits to engaging businesses locally.
“Our long-term engagement with the community since commissioning the Clements Gap Wind farm in 2010 has highlighted the expertise that exists in the local industry,” Mr Maan says.
“It makes sense to tap into the industrial power of the region who have the local knowledge and ready access to resources.
“Employing locally also enables us to give back to the community which has been so welcoming and supportive of our renewable projects.”
Businesses providing labour hire, earthmoving, water supply, waste management, temporary fencing, security and hardware/tooling are urged to attend.
Vocational students seeking work experience on major energy infrastructure are also encouraged to go along.
Mr Maan says the start of construction with engineering company Enzen Australia was marked by a sod-turning event in June. Site mobilisation is scheduled to commence in October with project completion expected by early 2026.
“Once built, the 60MW BESS will go a long way towards helping the state reach its renewable energy target by storing electricity until it’s needed,” Mr Maan says.
“It’s exciting to think local industry could contribute to this milestone project for the region and, importantly, play a role in Australia’s transition to renewable energy.”
