COTA (Council on the Ageing) SA is seeking nominations from older people living on Yorke Peninsula to join its policy council to help shape its policy and advocacy.

COTA SA is the peak body representing the rights, interests and futures of more than 700,000 South Australians aged 50-plus, who together make up more than a third of our population.

COTA SA engages with diverse groups of older South Australians to understand the experiences and challenges that impact their lives and advocates for them across issues including cost-of-living concerns, access to health, transport, housing, family and domestic violence, and digital inclusion.

COTA SA Policy Council members are volunteers who provide expertise and advice on these issues, which informs policy focus, development and research. The policy council supports COTA SA’s advocacy for policy reforms and outcomes and influences decision-makers in the government and community and business sectors.

COTA SA chief executive Miranda Starke says having representation from YP on the policy council is important to COTA SA.

“As one of the state’s oldest regions, COTA SA is committed to continued engagement with older people on YP,” Miranda says.

“Having policy council members from YP will raise the voice of older people in the region and ensure that we are representing their views around ageing and living well in their communities.”

The policy council meets at COTA SA’s Adelaide office five times per year, and members can join meetings either in-person or electronically. COTA SA will cover reasonable travel expenses.
