NEARLY half of the Barunga West Council workforce and elected members are women, a truly remarkable feat.

“We cannot help but feel immense pride in acknowledging the remarkable contributions of our female councillors and employees,” CEO Maree Wauchope said.

“We are truly on a positive path to providing equal opportunities for all women.

“Of our nine councillors, four are women, including the mayor, while the council is also proudly led by the first woman to hold the CEO role since council’s inception in 1997.

“It is clear that their efforts have been instrumental in the council’s many successes.”

Mayor Leonie Kerley said the talent and dedication of BWC’s female staff were second to none.

“Their leadership and hard work have made a profound impact on our regional community,” she said.

“On this International Women’s Day (March 8), we celebrate these women as role models for anyone interested in a career in local government, and commend them for setting an example of excellence in their field.

“Their unwavering commitment to making our communities better places to live and work is nothing short of admirable, and we extend our sincerest thanks to all of the female councillors and employees of Barunga West Council.

“Let us continue to acknowledge, empower, and uplift the incredible women who make a difference in our world every day.”
