BARUNGA West, Copper Coast and Yorke Peninsula Councils (Alliance) have recently commenced a review of their 2020-24 Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP).

As the DAIP is nearing the end of its timeframe, it is important the plan is reviewed and updated to capture improvements to disability access and inclusion in the area.

Disability and inclusivity advocate, Councillor Cathy Vluggen from Copper Coast Council, believes it is critical the community engages.

“We’re calling on all YP residents to have their say on the Yorke Regional Alliance Disability Access and Inclusion Plan — it’s an important document,” Cr. Vluggen said.

“From ideas on accessibility, to opinions and input on the current state of facilities and services in the region — the Alliance wants to hear your thoughts.”

The Alliance is holding a series of workshops where the public is encouraged to share ideas that will help prepare their next plan.

The workshops will be an opportunity for community, stakeholders, Council staff and Elected Members to explore ideas together.

People living with a disability, their carers or people working in the sector are encouraged to share their views on how to improve disability access and inclusion.

Cr. Vluggen said three identical workshops will be held across the region.

“They are a great way to open collaborative discussions,” she said.

“But if residents want to have their say in the privacy of their own home, the online survey is also a great way to get your voice heard — there are options for everyone.”

Surveys are also available from each Council office, or via the QR Code in the advertisement.

Feedback can be emailed or delivered to the Alliance Council offices; submissions are due at 5pm, Friday, November 1.
